The political activities within Umunneochi is such that arouses the interest of any meaningful indigen. While there are many political parties within the local area, concentration will be on Labour Party. Beginning 2023 after the election through to 2025, umunneochi witnessed serious turmoil that fractionized labour Party to an irreconcilable difference.
There where more the three factions of Labour Party, but prominent among them was that of formal SSA to the governor Ndubisi Ike/Opigwe and Mayor Sunny Afurobi/Hon Nwachi and Hon. Chaka Chukwumerije and others. While their disagreement grew stronger, members of the party were discouraged, dissatisfied and defected into other political parties. Towards the end of July 2025 when the disunity was at climax I joined the labour Party through ward chairman, members and their LGA executives that were host twice and given lumpsum amount of money and I hasted to add that this group were controlled Ike Opigwe and Ike Ndubisi. When I requested to host the entire Labour Party member at LGA level multitude came but was not LP member but Abia Arise.
This was how I became a member of Abia Arise. The only reason I could not host the entire LP members in the LGA level was because of the factions and serious disnity among the party members.There was clarity of purpose seeing the wonderful works of his excellency, governor Alex Otti, and understanding that the Abia Arise was governor’s structure and money needed to ensure sustenance of the party because the mayor Afurobi has refused to fund the structure. I took it upon myself to fund the structure for six months before the governor’s and mayor’s money started coming. leadership has to be displayed having understood that His Excellency’s efforts in developing Abia State must be supported and encouraged by a united Umunneochi LGA. Mazi Ugochukwu Obi concentrated his efforts in making sure that he unite most especially the masses under a common banner of Dr Alex Otti through suponsuring meetings of Abia Arise in all the 12 wards within the LGA and funds were made available for other Zone one party members for unity through hosting them.As the political elite were fighting among themselves Hon mazi Ugochukwu was busy mobilizing the grassroots At this point the political elites were merely doling out complaints to the effect that Alex Otti’s administration is not giving handouts as it used to be the case under previous administrations.
Mazi Ugochukwu instead went into committing his own personal resources, when no one else was ready to do so, to motivate both the political class and the electorate in order to restore faith in His Excellency’s administration.He personally sponsored Ward activities for pro-groups that are working for his Excellency such as Abia Arise etc. He frequently mobilized grassroots from the different wards of Umunneochi to his house while shouldering their transportation, entertainment and welfare.
Ugochukwu Obi’s trajectory in politics has earned him the name Ugo Umunneochi and transformed him into a household name in Umunneochi. He stand a better chance more than any other person to mobilize mass number of voters for his Excellency in the forthcoming general elections.
